Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to third grade! I look forward to getting to know you and your child and helping them grow as an individual to reach their maximum learning potential! We have a very exciting and rigorous school year planned ahead and every moment of the day will count! The classroom door will open at 8:15 a.m. Please ensure that your child is on time to school and ready to learn!
I am so eager and excited to start this school year! Last year I moved to St. Pete and love the energy, people, and of course the beaches! I moved from Raleigh, NC where I taught fifth grade. Growing up in a small town right outside of Boston, I desired a little warmth in my life. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, I was ready to teach and live in a climate where I didn’t have to bundle up for six months out of the year. I love being outdoors, staying active, yoga, swimming, reading, and enjoying life! I have been fortunate to have many teaching experiences and had many opportunities to grow and challenge myself as an educator. I absolutely love teaching and supporting each child grow into the amazing, wonderful, bright, compassionate, motivated students they are.
Teacher-parent correspondence is very important to me! I will be using your child's STAR binder for parent/teacher communication and behavior notes. This will include student planners. The cost for the planner is $4.00. Please send in $4.00 (cash) into school if you have not already. Please check and initial the planner every night. I will respond to all emails and phone calls as promptly as possible. Please keep in mind that throughout the instructional day I will be actively teaching your children.
I believe it is important to focus on your child’s positive behavior. Students will earn Dojo points for behavior. Each 25 points will earn a reward coupon. Students will also work together as a class to earn class rewards. If a student makes poor decisions they will receive a warning. If the negative behavior continues other consequences will apply, for example a time out or missing part of recess for that day. Other consequences could include losing some Dojo points, a note home, or in severe situations a trip to the office. If I have a behavior concern with your child I will be sure to let you know either by writing in his/her agenda or contacting you via phone or e-mail.
If at any time you would like to conference about your child’s academic progress, behavior, etc… please feel free to contact me to schedule a meeting or phone conference. Please note, I am not available to conference during instructional time or while students are coming into class in the morning since my focus will be on teaching and getting students ready for their day.
Your child will receive grades in all subjects including language arts, math, science, social studies and health. Classroom participation and homework will be included and considered in final grade calculations. Remember, attendance does not count as a grade, but it can certainly affect your child’s grade. If your child is absent, they are responsible for making up any missed work. It is very hard for your child to catch up if they are absent from school repeatedly. Please do not hesitate to contact me throughout this year. J
Thank you in advance for your support! I look forward to working with you as a team to help your child reach their maximum potential and make their third grade year a SUCCESS!!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Katie Perdisatt
